NEWS FROM LAST WEEK – FEBRUARY 1 – 5, 2016
World equity markets declined again last week based mostly on economic indicators.
• Canada’s TSX declined less than 60 points for the week which was much less than others.
• Gold’s rise balanced oil’s volatility due to a rocky first half of the week and a falling U.S. dollar.
A vast majority of U.S. companies that comprise the S&P 500 have beaten earnings expectations (which is a fantastic sign), but the energy sector which has taken a beating has dragged down U.S. indices.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEK – FEBRUARY 8 – 12, 2015
U.S. oil producers will be meeting to discuss production levels in light of recent prices, due to moves by OPEC and predictions of prices in the short and long-term.
Canada will announce house prices, housing starts, and building permit data.
• House price data in Canada is dominated by major markets like Toronto and Vancouver which are influenced.
